Stress meters are designed to measure stress variations within rock masses and can be installed in boreholes up to 30 meters deep. They consist of a high-strength steel sensing ring securely anchored inside the borehole. The measurement principle is based on vibrating wire technology. Variations in rock stress produce corresponding changes in the resonance frequency of the tensioned wire, generating an output signal proportional to in-situ stress variations.
